  • I am BlerdNation because...

I am a Blerd because I love to explore how popular culture influences how people learn, interact, grow, and see themselves. I enjoy writing and speaking about my observations with fellow Blerds.

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

My Blerd role model is Aisha Tyler. I look up to Aisha because of her work ethic, her ability to thrive in various forms of media, and because of her willingness to tackle multiple creative outlets at once.

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

I stay connected to other Blerd via Twitter. I participate in Thursday night #BlerdChats when my 2 year old doesn't need my attention. I tweet from the @BlerdMedia account, but you can also follow my personal account @JovanDM.

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

I have awkward moments everyday. My co-workers know that I'm a pretty smart guy, what they often don't know is that I'm a huge geek. Every time I share how much I love comic books or cartoons my co-workers are surprised.

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

My favorite word/phrase is "Word?" as in, "Word? You're really just going to eat the last slice of pizza. Word?"

  • What are your goals/passions?

My passions are writing, motorcycling, gardening, and being a dad. My goal is to turn Blerd Media into an independent media company that produces content for Black and Brown people.

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

I listen to Aisha Tyler's podcast, Girl on Guy, and Neil deGrasse Tyson's Stark Talk radio frequently. Each of those shows shares perspectives of life and the universe that encourage me to reflect on changes that I can make in my life.

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

The best advice that I can give to other Blerds is for them to start now. So many people have great ideas that they never pursue because they're always waiting for the perfect moment to start. That perfect moment is now. Start now.
