Jordan – 23 – Comedian – Winston-Salem, NC

Bio

Jordan Brannon isn't like most stand up comics. As most are extroverted, energetic, and are people persons, he mostly keeps to himself, manga in hand and headphones blaring. He calls this being a "wondering" comic, observing/absorbing his surroundings that he can talk about onstage. Jordan's also HUGELY into geek and otaku culture, which he's been into since late elementary school. His love for anything geek and his love for stand up is why he chose to become a comedian. He's also a "manga junkie," which, as he would put it, is "an addiction well worth keeping and expanding upon." He self studies several languages, the "romance" languages (french, spanish, italian), japanese and german. He is also multi-talented. He sings, raps, acts, and writes.

  • I am BlerdNation because...

My stage name is "the blerd." No seriously, I feel I'm BlerdNation cause of not only my geeky intellect, but the fact that i can show it without hesitation. Not gonna lie, I used to hate, and I mean HATE, to show my nerdy side. It wasn't till I accepted myself, my geeky side, that I finally started living. In other words, I accepted my "persona" (if you get the SMT reference, you're AWESOME!)

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

For male blerds, I would say Donald Faison. for 1, I LOVE Scrubs (and Turk is, by far, my favorite character), and 2, he's something I would like to be when I make it in comedy. even though he doesn't always show it, he's a bona fide blerd, and its something I aspire to be. For female blerds, I'd go with Danielle McRae cause, ...well, I mean, its not cause I have a crush on her or anything (I mean, I do, I'm just saying). she's an awesome voice actress for one of my FAVORITE fighting games, Skullgirls. She also does a GREAT X-23 cosplay, as well.

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

Either thru the 3 facebook groups I'm in, a Tinychat I'm a part of, Twitter, Google+...or my favorite, ANIME CONVENTIONS (or anywhere that oozes "geek").

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

I was in an anime club in high school, and someone had brought some Gundam action figures to the meeting. I asked if I could see them, and when he gave them to me, some "act childish" switch was flipped. I started playing with them, sound effects and all. I didn't notice it until he tapped my shoulder.

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

Sic Parvis Magna, or "Greatness from Small Beginnings" (if you get the reference, you're AWESOME)
Veni Vidi Vici, or "I came, I saw, I conquered"
Carpe Diem, Noctem Vincere, or "Seize the Day, Conquer the Night"

  • What are your goals/passions?

My main goal is to have a cross-country comedy tour at many anime conventions across the U.S. I also want to do a tokusatsu-inspired indie movie based on one of my "concept stories," Specktrum.

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

The one thing that impacts me is music, mostly videogame OSTs. It inspires me with most of my talents, especially writing. Cause of my overactive imagination, it helps me view some of the events in the story excepctionally well.

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

Danielle McRae or any of the other ladies in the cosplay group she's apart of, called "Chocolate Covered Cosplay." They are very insightful and gorgeous young ladies that are inspiring lots of other young women to get in to cosplay. I have nothing but the UPMOST respect for them.

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

Just be yourself. Don't hate what you love or what you are. Express yourself to the fullest, and if that doesn't inspire you, remember the words of Parappa Da Rappa: "YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!"

  • Which anime inspired you the most?

I would have to say Naruto. I can't be mad about all of the trials going on in my life when I see all that Naruto has been through. He's supposed to be the hero of Konohagakure (village hidden in the leaves), yet is treated like a plague, from the older generation to his own peers. yet he strives fearlessly to try and fit in with the others, all with a smile on his face. Naruto knows the feeling of isolation and rejection; he's dealt with it since birth. Its how he's handled it that inspires me so much.
