Danielle – 26 – The Empress! :-) – Brooklyn, NY

Bio

What can I say? I'm a simple woman from Brooklyn who is madly in love with comic books. I love what comes from being part of the nerd community; the friends, the intense debates, the community itself. Its all great. I was a nerd before nerds were popular and Ill be one when the trend dies. :-)

  • I am BlerdNation because...

I am blerdnation because I have had my face buried in textbooks, encyclopedias and visiting museums just for the pleasure of it since I was old enough to read. I take pride in being a nerd, in being quirky, being geeky and an all around dork. To me blerdnation is all about being yourself and unique. And that's what I'm doing :-)

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

I really dont have 1 of those. I was just introduced to the lovely world of Blerds recently. Maybe Ill find my Blerd Yoda soon?

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

I use my Twitter account to find, connect with and interact with other BLERDS. I'm trying to use other forms of social media as well but so far Twitter has been the best way.

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

I have awkward Danielle moments. None related to being a blerd tho lol

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

My favorite word is a curse word lol. My favorite phrase is Eureka! I've been saying it since I was a little girl and didn't even know what it meant. Now that I'm older I associate it with 1 of my favorite people in history: Archimedes.

  • What are your goals/passions?

My goal at this point as a Blerd is to get other blerds to come out of the closet lol. Im trying to turn this hobby into something great, something people become interested in and not ashamed to be a part of. Which is weird to me since being a blerd/nerd/geek is nothing anyone should be ashamed of but a lot of people feel its necessary to hide that part of them because of the negative reactions (bullying, teasing etc) they get from people. My general life goal is to be a success in which ever life path that I choose. Right now Im attempting to become an attorney. Lets see if that works out!

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

Right now I'm reading Justice by Michael Sandel for my Ethics and Law class as well as The Wisdom of Psychopaths by Kevin Dutton for pleasure. Justice has me thinking about how and why laws are made as well as should we follow unjust laws? The Wisdom of Psychopaths has me rethinking the whole definition or image of psychopaths that we as society have! They arent just murderers and all around evil...good reading.

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

I think Aisha Tyler would be a great Blerd to add to the blerdnation. She's funny, smart and all around geeky!

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

Just be yourself. Dont worry about how others view you...just enjoy being a BLERD. Because being a blerd is awesome.
