Bio

I'm a simple man (and glad of that fact).

A man of few words, but I stand tall (and accountable) behind my actions.

A blerd before the term was a thought and dabbler in the world of the arts. I'm a DJ, a photographer, a writer, and ex Bboy (that still can move when the need arises, haha). I still videogame from time to time and work in the IT world to support my tech addictions.

  • I am BlerdNation because...

I am the roots of the term Blerd. I lived through the era of being called Steve Urkle and passed off as a non-threat by being compared to Carlton Banks. Serving dancefloors during Jr. High (much like Alfonso Ribeiro did as well) and growing up after high school (not unlike Stephan Urkle) I got a chance to get a last laugh of sorts.

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

Levar Burton is my Blerd role model. His work from Roots, to Reading Rainbow and then into STNG was amazing. Not many brothers can pull off wearing a hair clip and pretending to be blind (either in the present OR the future, haha).

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

I use social media (Twitter, Facebook) primarily to stay connected with the Blerds I do know. I also frequent a few videogame/photography forums and run into others that way. Being employed by the IT world I cross paths with pockets of Blerds and branch out my network that way also.

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

My entire life seems to be one huge ongoing awkward moment, haha. I'm never bored, though. For that, I am thankful for my eccentric ways and those it seems to appeal to.

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

"What the blue hell?" (used to put someone on blast or when I'm confused by something someone has said)

  • What are your goals/passions?

I'm looking to start a photography business in the next two years as a primary source of income. Just waiting on word back from a potential investor/partner and that may start sooner than planned. Business plan is in place, but working in IT to support the dream and dabbling in the arts in order to keep the brand up/name out there.

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

I'm reading "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. So far, so good. It's about understanding how to maximize the time given to us and find success within. Lots of great perspective gained from reading it so far.

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

Spike Lee (nuff said) Chuck D (nuff said) Levar Burton (nuff said) Steve Arrington (former lead singer of the 70s Funk band, Slave and now a solo artist)

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

Stay true to yourself. Always question your motive and make sure that it's both right and proper. Too many people look for the praise, but forget to hand it out along the way. None of us can make it through life COMPLETELY alone.
