Ben – 31 – Comedian/Tech Support – Gilbert, AZ

Bio

I'm originally from Dover, Delaware. Most people who hear that say two things: 1. Wait...you're from Dover, DE. 2. Ha, you're Ben from dover....get it...Ben Dover. I moved out to Arizona in 2007, and started comedy in 2009. I always thought I was okay, but the more I do comedy, the more I realize I really enjoy making people laugh. I'll be making a lot more people laugh soon, I guarantee!

  • I am BlerdNation because...

I am one of the nerdiest black people on the planet! The amount of super hero t-shirts I own, alone, should make me Blerd King. It's insane. It looks like my closet threw up super hero shirts. I wish everyone's closet did that.My closet was made in Japan (because EVERYTHING is made there apparently)

  • Who is your blerd role model? Why?

My biggest blerd role model are my grandparents and my mom. I know they aren't famous but they've always let me be myself. This is the reason I've been able to stay me for this long. When I was rocking out to Bryan Adams on weekends "Waking up the neighbors" they just let me. They never tried to make me into anything. That's pretty cool. I hope that I can be the same way with my daughter. (but if she's confuses the Superman and Batman symbols again, she's out of the will)

  • How do you stay connected to other blerds?

I don't know any other blerds near me besides my cousin. He's just now realizing he's a blerd. I kid. I use social media to connect with other blerds. Which is how I found this site. If there are any blerds in the Phoenix area or any people who like good comedy, follow me on one of the places above. I perform at The Comedy Spot in Scottsdale. One of the best comedy venues on the planet! (shameless plug)

  • What’s your most awkward blerd moment?

I heard Hootie and Blowfish was playing on the radio. I did what any other Hootie fan would do. I started singing out loud. That's the rules right? If you're a Hootie fan, you show support by singing out loud wherever you are. Was it bad that it was in the operating room while my daughter was being born? I don't know. Did it make an already joyous occasion even more joyous? You better believe it!

  • What’s your favorite word/phrase?

    Schaweet or cool beans.

  • What are your goals/passions?

My main goal is to be a great dad to my daughter and raise her to be a blerd. Well technically she's a future baby. That's what I call mixed children. So would she be a Nelatto (Nerd + Mulatto). That sounds like an ice cream flavor. Now I want ice cream. What are we talking about again? Oh yeah, goals. I also want to make it as a comedian. I believe this will help push me in the right direction. I also want a trending hashtag on twitter. Like #blerdchronicles or #TheBlerdBenLewis. I'm gonna start it right now.

  • What are you listening to, watching, or reading that impacts you or that is giving you a different perspective?

Listening to Childish Gambino and reading Pulse News, which has everything!

  • Are there any famous, or not-so-famous, people that you think would be a great addition to BlerdNation?

Famous wise, Donald Glover would be a great addition to our Blerd Nation community. Non famous, my cousin. I won't put his government on "the nets". He may be wanted in Abu dhabi. For being TOO AWESOME!!! (which is probably like being the "Best" Kardashian...Nobody cares, but it's important to him)

  • What advice would you give to other blerds?

Just stay true to yourself. It can be hard being a blerd sometimes. At first we feel like we have to fit a stereotype. We don't have to, we can just continue being ourselves. We may get made fun of, but once you realize it's who you are, you're golden.
